Yeah there was a "dodgey" batch my 2008 (58) was just out of it I believe, but could happen, end of the day it's a machine and if looked after mechanically, there is no reason it will fail. BMW said if it was the 1st valve they could have replace the inlet manifold free due to known EGR issue but it happened in the 4th valve. Sound of friction drag on the engine from about 1500 rpm, which is visible from the inside. The noise can be perceived in area of the gearbox housing and the oil pan.
